One
of the best and longest excursion for ones who want to see majestic
mountains and towns & sea, stretched under them; to visit
historical places and sights of Crimea, to hear a rumble of the
mountains wind and a hum of the sea surf. We
leave Yalta early morning and after 1h ride make the first stop near the famous Foros
church on the mountain. If you are brave enough you may try to stand close
to the breakage and to enjoy the view of the sea and town Foros. Then
you pass though the Baydarsky gates of Crimean mountains and drive though
the famous Crimean nature park to Bakhchisaray - 15th
cent. capital of the Crimean Khanate. The city was constructed by local master
builders, Ukrainian and Russian captives, as well as by builders from
Iran, Italy and Turkey. For sure you'll be impressed by an old magnificent Khan's Palace
(16th-18th
c.) and the Fountain of Tears which inspired the famous Russian poet Pushkin to write the poem
"The
Fountain of Bakhchisaray". Also you may visit (extra cost) one of the oldest culture
monument of Crimea - 8th c. Uspensky (Dorminition) Cave Church, which is hewn out of a
cliff.
And
at the afternoon we arrive to Sevastopol - one
of the best-known cities in the Crimea. Seaport and an industrial, scientific,
and cultural centre of Ukraine. During
the 5th-6th c. the city was the bastion of the Byzantine Empire on the northern
shore of the Black Sea. During the 9th-10th c. it played an important role in
the economic and political relations between Byzantine and Kyiv. In 988 the
Kyivan prince Volodymyr Svyatoslavovych captured Sevastopol, where he was
converted to Christianity. In May 1783 the first 17 ships of the Black Sea fleet
cast anchors in present-day Akhtialsky harbor. Construction of the port and
military settlement was begun.
Tourists
will see monuments to heroes who
defended Sevastopol during the Russo-Turkish War of 1854-1855 and during the
Soviet-German War of 1941-1944. Observe other historical sights
of Sevastopol.
And
after lunch in Sevastopol restaurant - short ride to ruins
of the city of Chersonese Taurice, located in the western part of Sevastopol on
the Heraclian Peninsula. An important political and cultural center, founded by
Greeks in 422-421 B.C.
And
then - go back to Yalta along the Black sea. Really, unforgettable
journey!
Many of our clients take this excursion to get to
Sevastopol from Yalta and
spend several days in that resort town. So you can discuss an option
of making changes to the tour plan (and reduce the total cost).
